As founder of Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay, Dr. Valins leads a talented, professional staff of doctors and medical assistants. Dr. Valins believes that each patient deserves friendly, well-trained staff members who carefully listen to you and care about you and your health. Dr. Valins is committed to ensuring that patients who put their trust in Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay receive the finest, most professional care anywhere in the area.

Dr. Valins completed his undergraduate degree at State University of New York in Binghamton graduating with a bachelor's degree in French Language and Literature. He then went on to pursue graduate studies in French and Italian Language and Literature at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and spent a year teaching in France. Ultimately, the sciences and medicine became his passion and Dr. Valins took his determination and talents to the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine graduating with a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine. He then continued and completed his residency training in podiatric surgery at the Hospital of PCOM in Philadelphia.

Dr. Valins decided to move to the Tampa Bay area to practice podiatric medicine and surgery in order to escape the winters of the northeast. In addition to his long-term practices in Zephyrhills and Sun City Center, and in view of the explosive population growth in the surrounding areas, Dr. Valins added offices in Wesley Chapel, Riverview/Apollo Beach.

Dr. Valins is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons , a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management . He is the long-term treasurer of the Hillsborough County Podiatric Medical Association. He is Board Certified in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Valins's wife, Claudia, is the Practice Administrator of Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay. They work together to provide premium patient care in a family atmosphere. Dr. Valins and Claudia have three adult children, and three grandchildren. The children were all raised in Tampa but now live in Brooklyn!

Total Foot & Ankle of Tampa Bay

Dr. Walshe was born and raised in North Miami Beach, but since making the move over to the west coast of Florida several years ago, she has enjoyed calling Tampa Bay her home.

Dr. Walshe knew from an early age that she would pursue a career in medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University, after which she attended Barry University's School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami. She went on to complete her year surgical residency at Baptist Health in South Florida. During her residency training in Miami, Dr. Walshe had the opportunity to be trained in a variety of podiatric procedures in areas including trauma surgery, elective cases, wound care, and diabetic limb salvage. Her residency training also allowed her to participate in the Yucatan Crippled Children's project (YCCP), a program sponsored by Barry University, in Merida, Mexico. During the YCCP Dr. Walshe was exposed to a variety of uncommon children's lower extremity deformities truly invaluable experiences.

Upon the completion of her residency training, Dr. Walshe joined Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay. After seeing the care and compassion the practice has for its patients, she knew it was the perfect fit for her.

Dr. Walshe has a love for both pediatric and geriatric populations. She also has a keen interest in diabetic foot care and believes it takes a team effort by both patient and physician, to keep patients' feet healthy. Dr. Walshe enjoys building strong relationships with all of her patients and finds that both good communication and a good sense of humor are the keys to any successful outcome.

Dr. Walshe is married to David. She has a little girl, and a chihuahua - named Penny. She enjoys dining out, spending time with family and friends, and being active outdoors. In her free time, Dr. Walshe loves to travel, sleep in late and attend local sporting events.

Learning to perform an operation is not difficult. Being able to understand the human condition, to understand pain, to be compassionate, therein lies the art of being a surgeon.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Calise spent 15 years in private practice in Rochester, NY, before joing Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay five years ago. He completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 1988.

Extensive training in reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle was a major part of his residency at the University Hospital and University of Medicine and Dentistry of Newark NJ.  Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Calise became an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Residency Education at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine .

Dr. Calise is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot & Ankle Surgery. He has recently completed his second 10-year recertification in both these boards. Dr. Calise's area of special interest in podiatry include diabetic limb salvage, trauma and reconstructive ankle surgery.

When not under the bright lights of the operating room, Dr. Calise is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys exploring rarely traveled areas of the back country either on foot, by canoe or by jeep. Dr. Calise and family are much happier surrounded by the warmth and sea breezes of sunny Florida.

Total Foot & Ankle of Tampa Bay

Dr. Endri Afesllari grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and is enjoying practicing the profession he loves in the Tampa Bay Area. Dr. Afesllari graduated from Wayne State University with a biology degree with both departmental and university honors. He went on to pursue his medical degree in New York on a scholarship at the College of Podiatric Medicine and the prestigious Mt. Sinai School of Medicine graduating in 2015.

Dr. Afesllari’s practice philosophy is evidence-based medicine using an empathetic approach while respecting patient values. He encourages patient involvement and believes that a shared decision-making approach yields the best medical and surgical outcomes. He completed a rigorous residency in foot and ankle surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Although he enjoys every aspect of surgery, Dr. Afesllari considers surgery a last resort for foot and ankle ailments.

Dr. Afesllari is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has published multiple articles related to foot and ankle pathology. Being actively involved in research has allowed him to stay up to date with the most recent medical and surgical advances.

Dr. Afesllari has received specialized training in arthroscopic reconstruction and total ankle replacement. His area of interest is a minimally invasive surgery (MIS)-the newest trend in treating bunions, hammertoes, and fractures that improves outcomes and decreases rehabilitation time. In his free time, Dr. Afesllari enjoys playing soccer, volleyball, and spending time with his family and friends. Since moving to Tampa, he has developed an interest in boating and water sports. Dr. Afesllari recently got married to his long-term sweetheart and is happy to be making Tampa Bay their home.

 

BRET C. MUSSER DPM, FACFAS

Total Foot & Ankle of Tampa Bay

Dr. Bret Musser practiced for three years in Chicago before moving to the Tampa Bay area. He is proud to join the exceptional team at Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay. Dr. Musser is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He completed residency at Weiss Memorial Hospital/Cook County Health System in Chicago with extensive training in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery as well as all other facets of foot and ankle medicine. He received his medical education and certificate in Health Administration from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Missouri.

Dr. Musser specializes in comprehensive care of the foot and ankle including sports related injuries, fractures, tendon/ligament injuries, arthroscopic foot and ankle surgery, flat feet, heel pain, pediatrics, bunions, hammertoes, primary podiatric care, and wound care. Dr. Musser is an advocate of individualized care by setting personalized goals to get you back on your feet faster and improving your outcomes.

Dr. Musser was born and raised near Kansas City, Missouri where he was a 5-time Missouri All-State track and cross country athlete as well as an AAU All American in cross country. He went on to run track and cross-country in college where he was All-Regional and an Academic All-American. In his free time, Dr. Musser enjoys running and staying active, traveling with friends, and exploring great restaurants. He is also an avid Kansas City and Mizzou sports fan.
